Happy new year, everyone. From all of us little Colonels, to all of you fabulous people out there in coloneland. We have had a great year. We recorded an album, got to play a show with the Mountain Goats (JD is one of the best songwriters out there - the bard of disappointment), finally found a drummer (we love you Sasha), sold some records, got some pretty good reviews, got a little air play air around the country, and started having fun. 2008 will be known as the year in our musical journey that my solo work became less important and the band started to take over; this has made it easier to just loosen up and have fun because I am know just part of this beautiful rock being known as the Colonels. Lisa plays her leads, peter lays down the thick bass, sasha gets nasty on the kit, and i can focus on singing and backing lisa up with my rhythm playing. every night i play, i’ve got the three best people in the world with me, and i love all of them.
i just want to send a big thank you out there to the folks who have been supportive of us from the start: i don’t know if i would still be playing music if it weren’t for the kind words you had at the right time. Adam: you are like a rock, buddy. I get so down, and you always say the right things. Erik: you were so supportive at the beginning that it made it easy for this shy little geek with an old G&L to sing the songs he was afraid of sining to the world; I want nothing but the best for you and the Front. To the ladies sticking with us - thank you!!!! a million times over, thank you.
It is so hard to break through people’s expectations when your life starts to take its own direction. My mother threatened to disown me for playing music, my college friends sabotaged my website and the myspace page with mean, hurtful comments that almost, almost made me retreat - but enough of you out there were positive to make me tune in to the good that was around me, and it is always there, to make me see that I am not alone on this journey. Thank you, from the casual observer who offered kind words of support, to the real musicians who opened up their hearts to me. This year has been amazing, and i am living my dream because of the unconditional love i have found in the strangest of places. You find the support networks you deserve, I guess, not the ones you stumbled upon while growing up.
anyway, for the first time, i am alive. and i want all of you to have a great new year. be alive, have fund, set off some MF fireworks, and raise hell.
HAPPY NEW YEAR
Love,
The Colonels
